Freeney to play in Super Bowl

Indianapolis Colts defensive end Dwight Freeney sprained his right ankle last week but expects to play in the Super Bowl.

With about two minutes remaining in the game, Freeney was hurt while trying to rush the passer.

Freeney is an undersized defensive end who relies on speed to get to the quarterback, so the health of his ankle is very important.

If he is not 100 percent healthy, it will likely severely limit his effectiveness in getting to the quarterback.

The Colts have played without the oft-injured Freeney plenty of times, but could really use him in the biggest game of the year.

Colts advance to Super Bowl, 30-17

The Indianapolis Colts played a flawless second half to take down the New York Jets, 30-17, and advance to the Super Bowl.

The Colts got off to a sluggish start, and the offense seemed surprised at the aggressive defense of the Jets in the early going.

Indianapolis made the proper halftime adjustments, and the offense was humming in the second half.

Quarterback Peyton Manning had a huge day, throwing for 377 yards and three touchdowns. Austin Collie also had a big day, as did Pierre Garcon.

The Colts will face off against the New Orleans Saints in a battle of the two teams that chased perfect regular season records.

Colts roll past Ravens, 20-3

The Indianapolis Colts used another strong defensive effort to take down the Baltimore Ravens, 20-3.

In the last three meetings between the two teams, the Colts have held the Ravens without a touchdown.

Those three meetings include two playoff showdowns, so the Colts defense deserves a lot of credit.

The offense did its share too, turning a close game into a significant advantage right before halftime.

Peyton Manning led the Colts to two touchdowns right before halftime, giving them a 14-point lead.

Manning wins 4th MVP award

Indianapolis Colts quarterback Peyton Manning has claimed his fourth Most Valuable Player award.

Manning had a fantastic season in leading the Colts to a 14-2 record and the No. 1 seed in the AFC playoffs.

The quarterback was particularly good in the first half of the season, when he was playing at a level almost unseen before.

Manning did slow down some in the second half, but was terrific bringing his team back from late deficits.

He possibly could have led the Colts to a perfect 16-0 record, but he only played half of the team’s final two games, which were both losses.

Colts pick Stover over Vinatieri

The Indianapolis Colts have decided to keep kicker Matt Stover on their roster instead of Adam Vinatieri.

Both veteran kickers are reliable and have had significant postseason success, specifically Vinatieri.

However, head coach Jim Caldwell feels that Vinatieri has not yet fully recovered from knee surgery.

The team will not put Vinatieri on injured reserve, which means he still could see a chance of kicking at some point this postseason.

Stover has kicked very well for the Colts since signing with them and the team is confident in his abilities.

Colts fall to Bills, 30-7

The Indianapolis Colts lost for the second straight week, falling to the Buffalo Bills, 30-7.

The Colts played most of their starters for just more than a quarter before pulling them for the day.

Indianapolis didn’t want to take any chances playing their starters on what was a very snowy day in Buffalo.

They have taken a lot of criticism the past couple of weeks for not trying to 16-0 in the regular season, but it might have been the right move.

The Patriots played their starters Sunday and watched in horror as wideout Wes Welker tore his ACL and MCL and is now done for the year.

Colts fall to Jets, 29-15

The Indianapolis Colts took their first loss of the season in a 29-15 defeat at the hands of the New York Jets.

The Colts elected to remove their starters in the third quarter while holding a 15-10 lead over the Jets.

I’m sure that left a sour taste in the mouths of many Colts players, who saw the dream of an undefeated season derail before their eyes.

Backup quarterback Curtis Painter was completely overwhelmed by the Jets defense and showed just how important Peyton Manning is to the Colts.

It remains to be seen what the Colts do in Week 17, but it’s unlikely that the starters will play meaningful minutes.
